Further to my article in December 2025 about new towns link here, I write to confirm that the Government is pushing ahead with its plan which it calls ‘the most ambitious housebuilding programme in more than half a century’.

Seven new towns have been proposed to create well-connected new communities, with homes, jobs, schools, green spaces, and transport links planned from the start. Each of the proposed seven locations is expected to deliver at least 10,000 homes, with several delivering 40,000 or more over the next few decades. Of the seven locations, Tempsford and Milton Keynes remain on the agenda, which fits nicely into the Government’s promotion of the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor. Both of these locations are expected to deliver 40,000 homes, with Tempsford being built around the new East West Rail station proposed for the area.

The Government is running a New Towns Draft Programme consultation which runs until 19^th May 2026 and, subject to the outcome of this consultation, it will look to take forward the chosen locations.
