As ARLA reported last month the supply of rental properties in London has dropped by a third. We are also seeing this trend in Bedfordshire. Which means one thing, rents are rising and now is a good time to let your property.
Kellie Marsh, Residential Lettings Manager at Robinson & Hall says “Stock levels are low and rental demand is increasing, therefore rents are rising by 5 to 15% depending on the area. Sale house prices are also increasing which means young professionals are struggling to get a mortgage so the only option is to rent. This, coupled with the uncertainty of the recent election means demand for rental properties is on the up.”
Bedford is seeing record rent increases as London is becoming too expensive and tenants are starting to look towns within an easy commute to reduce their living costs.
This year to date we have let 83% of rental properties on the first or second viewing. Those which are letting quickly are 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses with rents up to £1,000 per calendar month.
